Fast facts
Good to know
-
Every face is fair
Each side of a d20 has exactly a 5% chance, with no “loaded” numbers.
-
Dice have no memory
Three 6s in a row does not make a 4 “due”. Every roll starts fresh.
-
7 is the sweet spot
With two d6 there are 6 ways out of 36 to roll a 7, the most common total (16.7%).
-
Advantage, explained
Rolling a d20 twice and keeping the higher raises your average from 10.5 to 13.8.
FAQ
Online Dice Roller: your questions answered
Are the dice rolls on this page really random and fair?
Yes. The result of every die is chosen by your browser’s cryptographically secure random generator, using a method (rejection sampling) that gives every face exactly the same chance. The animation is decoration: the outcome is decided first and the dice simply show it. We test this in our code with statistical fairness checks.
How does advantage and disadvantage work?
On a single d20 you roll twice. With advantage you keep the higher number, with disadvantage the lower. Advantage raises the average result from 10.5 to about 13.8, and disadvantage lowers it to about 7.2.
What does “2d6+3” mean?
It is dice notation: roll 2 six-sided dice (2d6), add them up, then add 3. Set the number of dice to 2, the die to d6 and the modifier to +3 to roll exactly that.
What is the chance of rolling a 7 with two dice?
It is 6 in 36, or about 16.7%. Of the 36 equally likely combinations of two six-sided dice, six add up to 7 (1+6, 2+5, 3+4, 4+3, 5+2, 6+1), more than any other total.
Can I roll a die with any number of sides?
Yes. Choose “Custom” and enter any number of sides from 2 to 1,000. The common tabletop dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, d100) have their own buttons.
Is it safe to use this dice roller for tabletop games like D&D?
Absolutely. It is built for that: multiple dice, modifiers and d20 advantage. It also works offline once the page has loaded, so it survives a flaky game-night Wi-Fi connection.
