  • Repeats happen

FAQ

Random Number Between 1 and 10: your questions answered

How do I get a random number between 1 and 10?

Press Generate. The tool is already set to 1 as the lowest number and 10 as the highest, and it returns one whole number from your device’s secure random generator. Each of the 10 possible numbers has exactly the same 10% chance.

Is 1 to 10 inclusive? Can I get 1 and 10 themselves?

Yes. Both ends are included, so 1 and 10 can each come up, with the same chance as every number in between.

Why does 1 to 10 feel like it repeats so much?

Because with only 10 possibilities, repeats are common: there is a 10% chance that two picks match, and picking 5 numbers with repeats allowed gives about a 70% chance that at least two are the same. Turn on “No repeats” to get different numbers.

Can I get decimals or negative numbers instead?

Yes. Switch “Type” to Decimal to choose up to 20 decimal places, or change the limits to any range, including negative numbers such as -50 to 50.

Is the number really random, and do you keep it?

The number comes from your browser’s cryptographically secure random generator and is chosen with a method that gives every number exactly the same chance. It is created on your device, never sent to us and never stored.
